Living In The Shadows

This digital book was created as my final project for my Contemporary Literacies class, using Adobe InDesign. It explores the theme of Race, Inequality, and Injustice, inspired by The Other Wes Moore, and reflects how these issues have shaped my own life and the lives of my undocumented family members.

The project centers around my mother’s journey—coming to the U.S. legally, building a life through hard work, and eventually facing new hardships when her documentation expired. After leaving an abusive relationship, she raised three children on her own while dealing with fear, discrimination, and instability—especially during recent ICE crackdowns.

This book is more than a school assignment—it’s a personal narrative. It gives voice to those who are often silenced and shows the strength it takes to survive and hope in a system that too often fails us.
